Population pyramid part 2

In Human Geo today we continued to go over the population pyramid video. In most population pyramids there is often more women than men throughout the population. Also women tend to live longer than men. There are three different stages that countries go through, these stages are pre-industrialization, industrialization, and post-industrialization. Developing countries such as Rwanda and other countries in Africa often are going through the pre-industrialization stage. After countries go through this stage they go into industrialization. This is often when the country’s economic growth is good and there population pyramid is very large. In countries such as Russia and America, the stage that they are going through is post-industrialization. This is where the countries’ population is slowly decreasing and the population pyramid is becoming well rounded. Right now I would say that the U.S is in between the industrialization and post- industrialization. I think this because the U.S.’ economy is not good and our population pyramid is now beginning to round more.

Population pyramid

Today in Human Geo we watched a video on the population pyramid. Most of the class did not have headphones so some people could not understand the video as well as people with headphones. In this video it showed what a population pyramid was and a few countries population pyramids. A population pyramid shows the amount of people still alive in a certain age group. Also it had two sides, one side was male and the other side was female. After I completed the questions that Mr. Schick assigned to the class I went on to his websites that he had for the class. On one website it showed the amount of the population of the world of people that died and of people who are being born in this year so far. It also showed the amount of people being born and people who died today. On the other link it showed the population pyramid of the world and the counties in the world.

More CIA Factbook facts

Today during human geo we continued to talk about the CIA factbook. During the class people would go up to Mr. Schick’s computer and show the facts that they found. JC found out that Antarctica did not have a military despite its open area to test weapons. On the CIA factbook it said that Antarctica had a treaty signed to prevent Antarctica from causing problems. As we talked about the possibility of nuclear test in Antarctica, MR. Schick told us about when he was a kid during the cold war. During the cold war Russia and the United States would show off the power and amount of bombs that they had. When Mr. Schick was in 2nd grade, the government made a video showing what to do if a nuclear bomb went off during their daily life. Most off the students thought that this was a dumb video since we know the effects of a nuclear bomb.

Handing back of the unit one test

Today in human geo we received back our unit 1 tests. For each person that had an A they received their paper with the sound of a bell. When my name was called there was no bell, but when I went to receive my paper Mr. Schick would not hand it over easily until I noticed that my score was 89. 1 point shy of an A. After handing out the graded tests, we began to review each question on the multiple choice part of the section I got the first question wrong that asked if Wikipedia was a good first source the answer was false. After this Mr. Schick told us a list of things that are unreliable for research papers and other things. After the first multiple choice I had all the other multiple choice questions right. I did a good job on the essays and thought over all that I did a great job on the test.

Terms and Concepts

Today in Human Geo Mr. Schick went over the power point again, but he also showed us more information on the CIA factbook. Crude birth rate is the number of births per 1000 people of the population. Crude death rate is the number of death per 1000 people of the population. The rate of natural increase is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. Also migration is brought into this. Net migration rate is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving the country during a year. Some birth rates in countries are increasing in undeveloped countries such as in Chad, and some developed countries have low birth rates such as Germany and Japan. China along with Germany, and Japan, has a low birth rate which is caused from the unhealthy geography along with the pollution in the air causing multiple people to have diseases.

New Unit

Our new unit in human geography is population and migration. In the world there are over 7 billion people right now. Also we are increasing by 73 million people each year. Although this seems like a high number, the population is also decreasing from natural causes or car crashes or from anything. 90% of this population growth is being caused in developing countries such as ones in Africa, South and East Asia, and in Latin America. In the year 1804, the world had a population of 1 billion. 123 years later the earth had a population of 2 billion. Then 3 billion 3 years later and about every 14-12 years the earth would gain another billion. Life expectancy is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. For the rankings of highest years of life expectancy the United States was placed at #50. Even though our country has the technology to protect people, we also have fast food and other unhealthy foods that some people tend to eat. This has made our country go lower on the scale then it should be.

Review for the Unit Test

Today in class today we had a substitute teacher for Mr. Schick who had an important event to attend. Our substitute teacher came into the classroom dressed as Daphne from Scooby Doo for her classes today. The objective for our class was to review for the unit test tomorrow with Quizlet. This is a website designed to help people create ways to study and review for multiple things. What I did to review for the test was I received a partner and created 10 online flash cards and we quizzed ourselves with our notes. Some of the questions that I had were How has globalization caused change in original traditions in countries? I also had What did Socrates method do when used? My group partner had a question that was what was Socrates famous quote? Most of these review questions for the test are helping me to prepare for the upcoming test.
