Assignment part 3

Today was the last day to put the finishing touches on our power point assignment. In my group, we tried to find more information on the leaders and some government related facts about them. Although, our group was off track for a little while we were able to get more facts about the prime minister and the president of France. For most of the time Luke showed us pictures and told us about his horrific nose bleed last night. Even though most of the project was almost complete we still could have added some more facts instead of talking about bloody noses. I think that we did some what good on our assignment and I think that we will get a good grade on it. The next time that we will have class will be next week on Monday and we will have to present our projects to the class.

Assignment part 2

Today in Human Geo we continued on our country projects. Along with completing the projects we received a new student, Kelsey. We started out with waiting for her to pick a group to choose. She chose to join mine and Lukes group. On our project we thought that we were close to finishing our project but we were not as close as we thought. We spent the class period finding out more important details about Frances government, such as how long the president can stay in office for, reasons for him to go out of office, and how long France has had a republic for a government. I did not have WiFi today so i had to help the group by looking at their computers and suggesting things that could go on the slide show. We continued to make slides that went along with Mr. Schick's comments on his blog.

Assignment

Today in Human Geo we were given an assignment. We were allowed to choose our own partners and once we chose our partners we were given a country. The assignment was to pick a country and to explain that country's government, and to talk about the leader and how they could possibly be thrown out of office. I paired up with Luke and we were given France as our country. After researching we found out that France had a republic government. We also found out that France is on its Fifth republic, since the past forms of government were changed multiple times. it was cool to learn about how France had so many different forms of government throughout special events such as  Napoleon Bonaparte turning France into an Empire than continuing to change even after Napoleon taking over. Learning more about France has shown me a different part of history in this country.

Yesterdays class

Yesterday in Human Geo we had to take a pop quiz. As we entered the room everyone saw the scan trons on the desk in the front of the room and new that we had a pop quiz. After Mr. Schick entered the room he made a popping noise and everyone groaned. This quiz was based off of the past subject that we have been studying which is Government leaders. We had three shadows in the class yesterday and Mr.Schick wanted them to take the quiz. everybody was talking about how they would get a bad grade on the quiz and their grade would go down.Mr. Schick handed out the scan trons and the quiz and everyone answered the questions. After everyone finished Mr. Schick left with the quizzes and began to grade them. After he finished he came back and then told everyone their grades. On my quiz I got a 80%.

Getting Test Back

Yesterday in class we received our tests back. Before Mr. Schick said my name to give me my test, he rang the bell signifying that I got an A on my test. For my test I received a 90% because I answered one off the extra credit questions right. I was one of three people to receive an A on this test in our class. Not a lot of people did well on this test, but at least we did better than Mr. Schick’s prediction for the classes average. I’m glad that I got an A on my quiz because on the last quiz I was one point away from getting an A. This weekend we were given an assignment to find the name of the leader of a country and to find the form of government for the country.

Not a lot today

Today in Human Geo the three students that had to complete the test took the test and finished them during the mod. For the rest of the students who already finished the test, they were able to complete homework. During the mod I finish my math homework so that I would not have a lot when I got back home. The rest of the students finished their blogs for the day, finished homework in their other classes, or did other things that didn't relate to homework. For the first part of the test when you only had 10 minutes to finish the section, students would go up, ring the bell, and say how much time was left. At first it was funny, but then it began to get a little old. I am thankful that Mr. Schick gave us time to do our homework because I had a lot of homework to complete.

Test #2

Yesterday in Human Geo we took our second test. This test was on population and migration. For the test the first 12 questions we had, we had to use CIA factbook to find out the questions. But we only had 10 minutes to use CIA factbook, so I was trying to finish that section as fast as I could. These questions were about the total fertility rate, crude birth/death rate, and the population of certain countries. I was very familiar with CIA factbook so that part was easy for me. The rest of the test seemed very easy to me and I think that I will receive good grade for the test. I hope that Mr. Schick will ring the bell when he gives me my test during class. I also hope that my classes average test score will be better than it was for our last test or what Mr. Schick expected our test scores will be.

Studing for the test

Today in human geo we reviewed for the test on Friday. We reviewed over words terms and concepts in class which are the following.
·        Life expectancy
·        Crude birth rate (CBR)
·        Crude death rate (CDR)
·        Developing nations
·        Developed nations
·        Rate of natural increase (RNI)- crude birth rate- crude death rate=RNI
·        Net migration rate (NMR)- immigration-emigration=NMR
·        Immigration
·        Emigration
·        Push forces
·        Pull forces
·        Total fertilization rate(TFR)
Infrastructure- what a county needs to communicate with the outside world.

The test will also be on population pyramids, and facts on the CIA factbook. Most of the terms above can be found through the information on CIA factbook. The video on population pyramids can also be used for studying for the upcoming test. The test will be one hundred points.Along with studying today we talked about the first patient diagnosed with Ebola in America, who was from Texas under high monitoring. He recently died earlier today.

Spotify for all

Today in Human Geo, Mr. Schick told us about Spotify’s school program. We were given a code for 3 free moths of Spotify premium. What we had to do was we had to make a playlist of songs that can relate to things that we are learning in school. The reason behind this was, Mr. Schick was asked by a teacher, who used to work at JC, to help him put together a group of songs that related to schoolwork to help students in school. We were given the codes for a 3 month premium Spotify account. We spent most of the class receiving our codes and entering them into Spotify. I am not sure that there are a lot of songs that can be used for the soundtrack but if we can get enough songs, I think it will be very useful. I hope that we are able to make a good and very helpful soundtrack

Not So Bad

Today in Human Geo we went to CIA fact book and tried to defend the United States and show although it’s not the best country in the world, it still is good. Some facts like the US has the largest and most technologically powerful economy in the world, with a per capita GDP of $49,800. We are number one in the world for GPD (purchasing power parity). Also, the US is number one in the world for most airports. After finding the rankings for the United States, we began to compare the US and other countries. The top four countries on the import list, the money range was more than a million up to more than 2.3 trillion dollars. These countries that were the top four were, China, US, Germany, and the European Union. All these countries are highly developed and have begun to trade and borrow from other countries in the world. This shows how countries are after they reach their peak in the world.

Greatest Country in the World

In class on Friday we were asked if the United States was the greatest country in the world. The class watched a video from a TV show. In the video, the main character said how America was in many ways not the greatest country. When the video ended, most of the class was silent. Mr. Schick then asked the class if we agreed with the main character. Most of the class thought the United States wasn't the greatest country and explained why, such as the employment rate and the amount of people who voted. The rest of the people that said America was the greatest country in the world, they said that they cannot talk about U.S. because we were born and raised in the United States. In my opinion, America could become the greatest country in the world like it once was, back when it had a strong economy and people were proud to be Americans.
