Population pyramid part 2

In Human Geo today we continued to go over the population pyramid video. In most population pyramids there is often more women than men throughout the population. Also women tend to live longer than men. There are three different stages that countries go through, these stages are pre-industrialization, industrialization, and post-industrialization. Developing countries such as Rwanda and other countries in Africa often are going through the pre-industrialization stage. After countries go through this stage they go into industrialization. This is often when the country’s economic growth is good and there population pyramid is very large. In countries such as Russia and America, the stage that they are going through is post-industrialization. This is where the countries’ population is slowly decreasing and the population pyramid is becoming well rounded. Right now I would say that the U.S is in between the industrialization and post- industrialization. I think this because the U.S.’ economy is not good and our population pyramid is now beginning to round more.

Population pyramid

Today in Human Geo we watched a video on the population pyramid. Most of the class did not have headphones so some people could not understand the video as well as people with headphones. In this video it showed what a population pyramid was and a few countries population pyramids. A population pyramid shows the amount of people still alive in a certain age group. Also it had two sides, one side was male and the other side was female. After I completed the questions that Mr. Schick assigned to the class I went on to his websites that he had for the class. On one website it showed the amount of the population of the world of people that died and of people who are being born in this year so far. It also showed the amount of people being born and people who died today. On the other link it showed the population pyramid of the world and the counties in the world.

More CIA Factbook facts

Today during human geo we continued to talk about the CIA factbook. During the class people would go up to Mr. Schick’s computer and show the facts that they found. JC found out that Antarctica did not have a military despite its open area to test weapons. On the CIA factbook it said that Antarctica had a treaty signed to prevent Antarctica from causing problems. As we talked about the possibility of nuclear test in Antarctica, MR. Schick told us about when he was a kid during the cold war. During the cold war Russia and the United States would show off the power and amount of bombs that they had. When Mr. Schick was in 2nd grade, the government made a video showing what to do if a nuclear bomb went off during their daily life. Most off the students thought that this was a dumb video since we know the effects of a nuclear bomb.

Handing back of the unit one test

Today in human geo we received back our unit 1 tests. For each person that had an A they received their paper with the sound of a bell. When my name was called there was no bell, but when I went to receive my paper Mr. Schick would not hand it over easily until I noticed that my score was 89. 1 point shy of an A. After handing out the graded tests, we began to review each question on the multiple choice part of the section I got the first question wrong that asked if Wikipedia was a good first source the answer was false. After this Mr. Schick told us a list of things that are unreliable for research papers and other things. After the first multiple choice I had all the other multiple choice questions right. I did a good job on the essays and thought over all that I did a great job on the test.

Terms and Concepts

Today in Human Geo Mr. Schick went over the power point again, but he also showed us more information on the CIA factbook. Crude birth rate is the number of births per 1000 people of the population. Crude death rate is the number of death per 1000 people of the population. The rate of natural increase is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. Also migration is brought into this. Net migration rate is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving the country during a year. Some birth rates in countries are increasing in undeveloped countries such as in Chad, and some developed countries have low birth rates such as Germany and Japan. China along with Germany, and Japan, has a low birth rate which is caused from the unhealthy geography along with the pollution in the air causing multiple people to have diseases.

New Unit

Our new unit in human geography is population and migration. In the world there are over 7 billion people right now. Also we are increasing by 73 million people each year. Although this seems like a high number, the population is also decreasing from natural causes or car crashes or from anything. 90% of this population growth is being caused in developing countries such as ones in Africa, South and East Asia, and in Latin America. In the year 1804, the world had a population of 1 billion. 123 years later the earth had a population of 2 billion. Then 3 billion 3 years later and about every 14-12 years the earth would gain another billion. Life expectancy is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. For the rankings of highest years of life expectancy the United States was placed at #50. Even though our country has the technology to protect people, we also have fast food and other unhealthy foods that some people tend to eat. This has made our country go lower on the scale then it should be.

Review for the Unit Test

Today in class today we had a substitute teacher for Mr. Schick who had an important event to attend. Our substitute teacher came into the classroom dressed as Daphne from Scooby Doo for her classes today. The objective for our class was to review for the unit test tomorrow with Quizlet. This is a website designed to help people create ways to study and review for multiple things. What I did to review for the test was I received a partner and created 10 online flash cards and we quizzed ourselves with our notes. Some of the questions that I had were How has globalization caused change in original traditions in countries? I also had What did Socrates method do when used? My group partner had a question that was what was Socrates famous quote? Most of these review questions for the test are helping me to prepare for the upcoming test.

Questions for the test

In class we went over questions that we could make for our test. We had to make questions about our past topics such as, A Message to Garcia, Globalization, Did you know 3.0, and Ancient Greece. For A message to Garcia, some of the questions that we made were Who wrote a message to Garcia? Albert Huberd. What war was going on during a message to Garcia? The Spanish American war. What was the meaning behind A message to Garcia? The meaning was to motivate people to work harder in life. For globalization, how can tribesmen in Africa receive cell phones with service in remote areas? Globalization has caused a vast spread in cell phones and service towers. Also you would need electricity to transmit calls. How has globalization caused change in original traditions in countries? Fast food has caused change in long traditional dinners in Japan and other countries.

Globalization

Globalization is just about everywhere you go. Globalization is the connection of different parts of the world. Globalization is shown by the clothes you wear and the food you it. Globalization is often shown in clothing because your clothes are often made in other countries. Also, food chains are a great part of globalization. There are McDonalds and KFC's in China and multiple other countries. Along with food brands are religions.  Christianity began as a small religion in the Middle East that has spread all around the world. One very well-known version of globalization is the Silk Road. This was a long system of roads leading throughout the Middle East and Asia. Along this road multiple merchants from Asia and the Middle East would trade and buy silk because it was a very popular item in the world at the time. Globalization is a very important part of the world but this has changed many traditions throughout the world.

Did you know class dicussion

In Human Geo today the class talked about the Did You Know? Video. We talked about the fact that 1 in 8 couples married in U.S met online. There is a lot more websites and ways on technology then before and people now are using this more often. We also talked more about how in a few years China will be the largest English speaking country. The reason behind this is because China makes a lot of products used by American and other English speaking countries. But the main reason why China will soon be the largest English specking country is because English is the natural language of business. This can be shown because in America if you use a business like Verizon and I you call them you often would get a person from an Indian call center. The reason behind talking to people in other countries is the pay wage in other countries is lower compared to America, so these businesses hire people in other countries besides America but this means that the item that the business is selling would be cheaper compared to the price of the item if Americans worked for the business.

Technology in this lifetime

-It is estimated that a week’s worth of The New York Times contains more information than a person was likely to come across in a lifetime in the 18th century.

-There are 31 billion searches on google every month. In 2006, this number was 2.7 billion.

-By 2013, a supercomputer will be built that exceeds the computation capabilities of the human brain.

My initial reaction to this video was just being surprised by all of the facts about our future and just thinking about how it could be in the future makes me somewhat speechless. These changes are manifesting into our lives by effecting how we have to live to stay in touch with the world, like buying new technology to help us for most of our needs in life. Technology plays a great role in my life. I use technology to help me communicate with people and it helps me complete assignments for school.

Day 5

Today in Human Geo, Mr. Schick was telling us about recent topics discussed in Human Geo.  He was telling us more about A Message to Garcia and a little bit more of the background of the story.  Mr. Schick explained to us that A Message to Garcia was a metaphor that society needs a Rowan that will deliver a Message to Garcia.  This means that a person will get their job done, when it’s needed, without making excuses.  Mr. Schick also told us that this essay was in newspapers and became so popular that 80 million copies were made.  Some factories and other workplaces would use the essay in their brochures to motivate workers to send a Message to Garcia.  I enjoyed the story and how a Message to Garcia can motivate people to send Message to Garcia.  Mr. Schick also showed us the last elections for the United States and a few other countries.  I was surprised to see the United States had the lowest voting population then the other countries shown, even though America has a lot of freedom to allow people to vote.

Day 4

Today, for Human Geo, we started off the class by celebrating a birthday. After singing happy birthday, Mr. Schick told the class that some of the students had 100’s and some students had 0’s. The reason that this happened was that instead of students adding a new post to their blog, they would create a new blog. After Mr. Schick told the students about this, some students realized that they had done the blog postings the wrong way.  Mr. Schick helped those students and most of these problems were sorted out. Also, he told the students how to fix their blog’s title if they accidentley made it my first day, day one, etc. Mr. Schick showed us an easy way of accessing our recently used links so they can be useful throughout the unit and year. At the end of class, Mr. Schick told the students about the ALS ice bucket challenge and what the challenge is all about.  I had already done the ALS ice bucket challenge. One of my Mother’s friends from high school actually died from ALS so I was glad to do the challenge.
