New terms

Agora: An essential gathering place or marketing place in ancient Greece often used to trade ideas and buy items, was the center of artistic, athletic, spiritual, and political life in the city.


Arete: An excellence of any kind used to describe bravery, strength, and wit, or living up to ones true potential.

 Polis: A city-state, nucleus, or central urban area.

508B.C: This was the year of the first democracy ever. Cleisthenes agreed to be the leader but requested that he would not have to make all the important decisions.
Socrates: he was a philosopher who exerted a profound influence on Ancient Greece.

Death of Socrates: Socrates was sentenced to death because he was corrupting the youth and he was disrespecting the Gods. What he did to deserve this punishment was he was bringing science into the world by asking opinions of others and having them think outside of the box. He could have escaped but accepted his punishment of death by hemlock.

Socratic Method: Asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and illuminate ideas to help more questions to have a logical answer.

Meaning of idiot in Ancient Greece: used to mean a private person or someone who is not interested in politics.
